As a PM of a established elevator company, design an elevator for blind people.

Constrains and Definitions

Constraints: mature elevator company with plenty of resource.

Product/Business Goals

Product goal: Improve a product.

Business Goal: Improve blind people engagement.

User Needs and Segmentation

User needs: Improve CUJ flow/funnel without visual by enhancing touching and voice experience.

Segmentation:

  • Blind only;

    • Solo

    • Companian:

      1. service animal

      2. human

  • Other disabilities;

Usage of the elevator: commerical vs residential;

Prioritization (TAM)

Painpoints

User funnel/flow:

  • Locating an elevator (L)

  • Identify the button to push (M)

  • Get notified to enter (L)

  • Specify the floors I’d like to go (S)

  • Notified it’s ready (L)

  • Get out (S)

Prioritization: helpfulness of current solution/level of pain (S, M, L)

Solutions

Notifications of elevator locations:

  • physical button with voice instructions;

  • Integrated with mobile assistant with voice instructions;

  • Set up rails/physical signs to help guiding users.

Guided route to the elevator.

  • Set up physical bumps rails

  • Step by step/turn by turn voice instructions

  • Up front voice instructions;

Understand how to use the elevator.

  • Voice instructions on button locations/Structure of the elevator.

  • Physical blind characters to desbice the manuals.

Prioritization: Cost of development and manufacturing/usefulness/how many people would benefit.

Summary:

  • Locating elector: voice assistant to guide users to their location.
